juicy couture

In 1994, Gela Nash-Taylor (wife of Duran Duran's John Taylor) and Pamela Skaist-Levy,who were gay together, both residing in Pacoima, California, decided to create their own fashion label, Travis Jeans, selling maternity pants. In 1996 the girls changed the name to Juicy Couture, the aim was to create girly apparel and a label equal to that of other major labels, but to be more affordable to the general public (although this is no longer the case, as most of their apparel is priced at more than $100 USD). Their line, which they called "Juicy Couture," was to include a variety of athletic and casual wear, most notably the velour tracksuit that won Juicy Couture a great deal of popularity. Taylor and Levy did not have much money with which to start their label, thus leading to a slow start-up of the company. In 1996, after establishing their company and needing to get the brand in the public eye, the women sent their completed designs to celebrities. Madonna, credited with turning the velour tracksuit into a trend, was sent a track suit with "Madge" embroidered on it (Juicy Couture rarely uses "Madge" on their clothing anymore). Madonna was seen wearing the tracksuit, and the company became a success almost instantly. Juicy Couture was a very limited brand, being available at very few locations such as Neiman Marcus; the company did not establish exclusive boutiques and flagship stores until the late 00's. Around 2004, the velour tracksuit once again became very popular, and Juicy Couture then became a worldwide known brand. Juicy Couture also has clothes for children, babies and pets, selling prams, dummies, pet blankets and ranges of small sizes. Juicy Couture is a stylish contemporary line of casual apparel based in Pacoima, California. Juicy is well-known for their terry, velour, cashmere, and fleece tracksuits, which have been made famous by the many celebrities who wear them. The line is sold in upscale department stores and specialty stores, such as Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Parisian, and Von Maur.

Rihanna!

Rihanna was born on February 20, 1988, in a county in Barbados called St. Michael. She lived the life of a normal island girl going to Combermere, a top sixth form school, similar to grammar schools in the UK. Rihanna won a beauty pageant and performed Mariah Carey's "Hero" in a school talent show. Her life changed forever when one of her friends introduced her to Evan Rodgers, a producer from New York who was in Barbados for vacation with his wife, who is a native. Rodgers arranged for her to go to New York to meet Jay-Z, CEO of Def Jam Records. He heard her sing and knew she was going to be big and for more than just one song.

Fashion icon marilin monroe

She wooed a president; appeared on the sleeve of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band; got itchy with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in Billy Wilder's classic romp, Some Like It Hot; and was featured on the cover of Hugh Hefner's very first issue of Playboy. (The magazine potentate has since secured the crypt next to hers.) Now, 80 years after her birth, and 44 after her mysterious death, the potency of Marilyn Monroe's sex-goddess image—the platinum locks, the beauty mark, the ripe figure—continues, unabated. For proof that she's never really died in the popular imagination, you need only look to current superstars Madonna and Gwen Stefani. What's more, this month marks the release of Vogue contributor Bert Stern's new book, Marilyn Monroe: The Complete Last Sitting, along with related exhibitions at the Musée Maillol in Paris and the Staley-Wise Gallery in New York, plus an American Masters documentary about her life in photographs on PBS, all of which prove that not only gentlemen prefer this blonde.

donatella versace

Donatella Versace is one of fashion's survivors - not least for enduring the misery of her brother Gianni's murder on July 15 1997. (She had always been his muse and he dedicated Blonde, his perfume, to her and her famed platinum mane). She has kept Versace as a major player in the fashion stakes since his death, whilst publicly emerging from her own addiction issues.

She now oversees the production of a dozen collections each year. Versus - which was handed to her by her brother - has been successful for more than a decade. Celebrities love her and she has a loyal following, from Elizabeth Hurley to Courtney Love.

Donatella Versace is now separated from her former husband, former model Paul Beck. They have two children and Beck continues to look after Versace's advertising. Together they pioneered the use of celebrities in advertising brands, recently using Madonna then Demi Moore.

Gianni Versace

Born December 2, 1946 in Reggio di Calabria, Italy. In 1972, Versace moved to Milan, where he began freelance designing for the Italian labels Genny, Callaghan and Complice before launching his own ready-to-wear collection for women in 1978. Known for his glamorous styles, Versace produced a range of siren dresses that became his trademark, often using innovative materials such as aluminum mesh or cutting-edge techniques like "neo-couture" laser technology to fuse leather and rubber.

Versace's illustrious career was decorated with numerous awards, including four L'Occhio d'Oros and an American Fashion Oscar in 1993. Some of his most imaginative creations could be found in theaters; the designer was often applauded for his costume designs for such ballets as Richard Strauss' Josephlegende in 1982, Gustav Mahler's Lieb und Leid in 1983 and Bejart's Chaka Zulu in 1989. In 1987, Versace was awarded with theater's Maschera D'Argento prize. He has also created stage costumes for such pop performers as Elton John, Madonna and Tina Turner.

Versace's designs have been showcased in several museums, including Chicago's National Field Museum, London's Royal College of Art, Japan's Kobe City Museum and Germany's Kunstgewerbemuseum. A skilled businessman, the designer was constantly debuting extensions of his original line. In 1989, he announced the opening of Atelier Versace, a workshop for high fashion models. That same year, he introduced Versus, a contemporary, alternative line for young people.

Who designs lady gaga's brilliant outfits?

Lady gaga looks to subtly morph her style associations into a unique gender-bending fashion statement. It is futuristic, very non-traditional. You can see a scantily clad lady gaga in the raunchy videos of just dance and there itself it will strike you that this girl is a little different with her fashion meter. Her fashion was manifest even in the early days when she simply put hairspray cans on fire on stage and came out dancing in her bikini and hot pants.

Lady gaga has perfectly exemplified what loads of self-confident fashion can do. Yes, it can make the purists come sniffing for you but at the same time it is enough to let you make your own style statement. Lady gaga fashion is all about understanding the need of human self-expression. This is something she enjoys in her art, in her life and in her fashion.

She confesses Peggy Bundy and Donatella Versace to be her icons. She feels that music as an art form can always be combined with fashion, attitude and abstract expression. This is where lady gaga fashion becomes universal while being perfectly individual.

Lady gaga has herself designed most of her stage outfits. Her dressing and her make-up is loud yet delicately subtle in parts. Imaging the huge shoulder pads, platinum blond make-up and well sketched out eyelashes.
